Should we get rid of Google AdSense?

Ok all of you AdSense users. G is making changes to text ads so that instead of getting clicks when people click anywhere on an ad unit (including the background of ads) you will only get paid when there is a click on an actual title or URL in the ad. Here is a picture showing the new clickable zones:

Google’s Reasoning:

We’re rolling out a change to our text ad formats to help reduce accidental clicks and increase value for advertisers…..This new format will match the changes we’ve implemented on Google.com to help decrease the number of accidental clicks and increase the number of ad conversions. A reduction in accidental clicks will keep users on your pages, interacting with your content until they choose to click on an ad. This change will enhance the user’s overall experience with your website and improve advertiser campaign value, but it’s likely that your click-through rate will decrease.

This new change is going to make many Adsense publishers irritated. The reason, many of the clicks are acidental. Adsense advertisers are happy because that means they are not losing money. The thing about Google is they are not afraid to lose publishers because they have a huge publisher base.

It would appear G is trying to take away some payouts, but when you look at AdSense Goals, then a true conversion is where the real money is at. Have you calculated what your site might lose over a month at the current rate of clicks paid by G? Now that I’ve asked that it would be impossible as their is no tracking available to a publisher.

I only wish I could figure out how to get the Public Service Ads changed out to paying Ads. I’ve been crawled & have other Ads from other non-G affiliates.

I’ve written them but only a generic response so far. At times this can be very frustrating but I am close.

Hope this new change is not bringing other lowered payout changes.

I just emailed them about unrecorded clicks. One day my tracking software showed 12 clicks on a 928×60 header- not one showed in my reports.
